Saundra was correct. Francis did save my daughter Amanda's life. 30 years ago (can't believe it's 30 years ), when Amanda was 3 (she is now 33 and the mother of 3 children) we visited Saundra and Bobby at their home in New Jersey.
At that time, Francis and Louie, my Aunt Sylvia and Uncle Mac and Saundra and Bobby were sitting around the pool, talking, but watching the kids in the pool. My older 3 children and Saundra's 2 children were swimming in the pool. Amanda had a pail and was sitting at the edge of the pool, at the end of the pool slide, collecting water that was sliding down from the slide into her pail.
We were of course watching her carefully. Not carefully enough, it turns out, because all of a sudden, Francis said, "Where's Amanda?"
We were horror stricken when we realized she was nowhere to be seen. In fact, Amanda had fallen into the pool and Francis reached her first. She reached into the pool, grabbed Amanda by her hair and pulled out a child who had
puffed out cheeks from holding her breath. Thank God for Francis' keen eye!
Amanda told me later that she was scared of the lady in the black bathing suit who pulled her hair.
On another note: Melanie emailed me to say that she didn't know that my grandmother, Molly had 2 husbands. The truth is she had 3 husbands. I'll find out more from my mother.

The image of Aunty Fran reaching down and pulling little Amanda, cheeks puffed still holding her breath, up from the bottom of the pool and Amanda being more scared of Aunt Fran than being under water, is wonderful. Maybe we can hear from Amanda, herself, on this story. Wonder if she remembers?
I had to rescue Ben from a pool mishap when he was close to the same age. We were at a pool party and a friend's husband, Dick, was playing with Ben in a lounge chair, hold him up high with both arms while Ben squirmed with laughter. Suddenly, Ben went sailing in a huge arc out to the middle of the pool with a big splash and then down. It only took a second or two to rescue Ben, since everyone saw Dick toss him like a big foot ball. "I dunno, just thought he could swim." was Dick's very contrite response.
Three husbands for Big Bubbie Molly. We need more on this.
