Happy Father's Day to the Uncles.

Here's to the Uncles (or great uncles) with us or not. Do you have a Father's day comment for your father?

Dear Dad,

It's been twenty or more years since you've gone. Missed you. Wished we had more time to know each other as mature adults. Wish I could have talked to you about day to day worries and accomplishments. Wish I was able to know you as an old doddering frail man. I've missed too many years of your kind but firm advise. Most of all I'm disappointed that you never got to meet your namesake, my son Ben, and he never had the pleasure of knowing his Zadie.

But I owe you one huge "thank you" among many, and that's for teaching me, by your example, how to be a good father. You gave me the courage, fortitude, level headedness, with a healthy does of skepticism, to care for the health of my son (with his Long Q-T Syndrome and his six near fatal cardiac arrests). You gave me the good sense and patience to nurture him into a bright, hard working (at least at school), politically engaged, and good hearted young man.

Thanks, Dad. Wish you were here to say this to.
