I can be silent no longer.

OK, I tried being quiet and letting others speak...nobody took their turn. So here I am again!

It's been a really crazy week. We had to be out of the house for the wood floors to be sanded and finished, so we stayed with Greg's mom. She lives in a 2 bedroom/2 bath retirement condo-type place which is about 1000 sq. ft. She was so good to let Greg, me and the 2 dogs come and stay. But oh my, she has a lot of furniture and a lot of nick-nacks in that little place!!

We were able to come home yesterday and the floors look gorgeous. This guy is really a perfectionist and an artist at what he does. We couldn't be more pleased. Of course, now I'm dusting and cleaning every surface in my house. Thankfully we had the foresight to drape the furniture and beds with plastic drop cloths. Greg has already dug in on the next project which is to remove the old linoleum (3 layers) from the kitchen in preparation for the new flooring which will be installed in 2 weeks.

We are going to visit Jenny & Chris this coming week, Thursday-Monday. It has been 6 months since we've seen them. This is the longest we've ever gone without visiting but things just worked out funny this spring. Needless to say, we are so looking forward to seeing them.

My brother Mark's twins, Jake & Dulcie are coming to visit us July 7-17. They were here last summer for a week and we all had such a great time with them. They are such amazing kids; unspoiled, fun and appreciative of everything you do for them.

So my next month or so is gonna be rather frenetic but fun. What's everyone else doing this summer?

Ben's high school graduation is next Sunday, when Stacy and I will host a restaurant dinner in his honor. This celebration will be tempered by Ben's Mom Carol's absence. It will also be, well, odd for Stacy and I, with Carol's family and her boyfriend joining us.

Yes, I inherited my former and long estranged in-laws and Carol's significant other, John (who was a factor in the break-up of our marriage). Throw Stacy's parents, my new in-laws, who will also be joining us, into this mix, and you have a..., well, don't know what to call it. I mean, Stacy and her parents will be socializing with my deceased former wife's family. I'm sure Stacy's parents would much prefer not to be reminded that their daughter's husband was previously married, never mind having to dine with my dead x's entire family.

But, as awkward as it is, both families are totally gracious and respectful. As far as John goes (Carol's boyfriend), I'm actually quite fond of him. A nice man, smart and interesting, who has always been a good friend to Ben (hey, Carol had good taste in men). We found Carol's body together (a story for another post) and have rather bonded over this shared horror. And, in a way, I've re-bonded with Carol's whole family, having shared this tragedy and worked closely with them in the weeks after Carol's death.

We are to all (sans Stacy's family) meet again in Gloucester, Massachusetts next month to spread Carol's ashes in the Atlantic.
