Clo not so happy about my picture taking.
Stacy will have prepared a variety of appetizers, cooking up a storm in our kitchen. I'm in charge of the cranberry sauce, which essentially requires the careful measuring and boiling of water. Whole berry recipe doctored with, maybe, orange juice and slivers of orange peel, or... (I'm open to suggestions). Canned cranberry sauce is always served along side my own, just in case.
We all arrive and stand around in Aunt Clo's kitchen, where the appetizers are arranged on the kitchen table. Wine bottles and a pitcher of Margaritas stand on the counter by the fridge. We eat dips, cheeses, olives, pickles, crackers, and a lot of hot finger food items. The late afternoon sun streams in through the window over the sink and the decibel level gradually rises as the Margarita level lowers in the pitcher.
Christian mashes the potatoes, a sign that dinner is imminent. Michael carves the turkey with an electric knife, while we all look on and give unneeded and, luckily, unheeded advice. He employes the remove-the-whole-breast-and-then-slice method, which causes a general concern, as if we haven't seen him do it many times before.
Christian mashing. Michael carving.
We prepare to make our way to the dining room. Aunt Clo is in full command, orchestrating the plethora of bowls and platters about to be paraded out to the table. Is anyone hungry after an hour and a half of eating and drinking? No matter, the candles are lit, lovely vapors rise from the table, and we sit down to a feast.
Can't wait.
What will your T-Day be like this year?

Aunt Saundra,
Zena and Joel will be at Aunty Julie's as well? I think she told me that last week.
Holidays for grown-ups are a mix of joy and sadness. A time to celebrate with friends and family, but also a time to remember those that used to celebrate with us.
In Stacy's family, her grandmother passed away several years ago, and Aunt Clo's husband, Uncle Rich, passed just two years back.
This years holidays will be particularly difficult for Ben and I, his mom (and my Ex) Carol Luce, having died this past spring. Remembering is a good thing, it's how we keep those who died, alive.
I will toast my mother, my father, my brother, and Carol this year. Enough on which to get tipsy.
Jenny and Chris will be here tomorrow, my cousin Michelle (on my mother's side) will be here Thursday, and Greg's mom will be joining us as well. I'm cooking the usual, with a few extra low-carb side dishes for those of us who don't want to go into a carb induced coma. Joshua was supposed to have to work Thanksgiving Day, which would mean we would have had our dinner on Friday, but he was able to find someone to trade shifts with, and I'm grateful. There's nothing like having everyone together. I love Thanksgiving. And not to be overly sentimental, but I have to say I'm feeling very thankful these days.
Scott, I've been meaning to ask how Ben is doing at college.
It's a littlelate about Thanksgivingbut I just read all the comments. We had 18 people at our house and it was the best. I cooked a 20lb. turkey and filledit overflowing with stuffing--cranberry molds , chopped liver {ala Granny} mashed potatoes, etc. I baked 3 apple pies {Caryn said she wouldn't come unless I did}Ha Ha. Zena brought rugelach and A.Saundra made the squash and sweet potato casseroles. Great time was had by all. Jodi stayed with me for a week. Caryn &Bob Alissa & Dean for the week-end. My 2 sisters were missed by all. I never stop missing them. I wonder If I'll ever go through a day without thinking of them. A.Julie salleI
