Hi Everyone. I am glad to be back on our family's Blog. For the newcomers I am Julie and Fred's daughter and left the Blog last May due to work being done on our house. We are back in and pretty much unpacked. We even got my pc up and running...and I finally had time to figure out how to get back on the Blog.
Besides being out of the house and living in a hotel for 5 months, I returned home to go for 7 days to the Furniture Market in Highpoint, NC for work, home for 1 week. Then I went on a Buying trip to Dongguan China for 8 days. Then had a 2 day trip to Connecticut for Bob's business there and this weekend we have a really neat Charity event in Philly (we are taking our dog Jeffereson--he will stay in the hotel while we play) . I am bushed. No time to finish the unpacking.
China is an interesting country. The ENTIRE country is being modernized and built at the same time. New, beautiful roads with tropical landscaping are put in first, then you see miles and miles of dirt, or partly constructed buildings surrounded by bamboo scafolding and green mesh with lots of people inside doing the work. You do not see any machinery or even cranes. It is non stop. You can drive for hours and hours and the view never changes. These buildings are apartments, and factories with dorms for the works. The better apartments are for foreigners because the average worker makes $80 a month and with sending money back to the farm village to their family, not much is left. The better off young people graduate the "English" University and major in English and Western Ways, they are really running the country, often acting as interpretur for the Presidents of the factories. The gov't's hand is in everything. The people are very nice and go out of the way to please. I stayed in a 5 star hotel which was quite beautiful and modern...catering to the Westerners. If you like Chinese food, this is the place to be. Next time I go I hope to take a couple of days and see Shanghai which I am told is really fabulous, and maybe go to the Great Wall of China.

Whoa, welcome back (from China!). Great to hear from you. I hope you took some pictures and can post them (we need pictures!). Give us some more details, too, especially about the food. When you ate in a Chinese restaurant, was it, like, filled with Jews (what's with us Jews and Chinese food, anyway?). Hi to Bob
