THE RED SOX

FINALLY. Well they did it and I am exhausted from watching them. For those of you who do not know I will repeat the story of Grandad and the Red Sox. Grandad was in the hospital with heart failure in 1986. The red Sox was in the World Series against the New York Mets. He was in the iccu unit of the hospital where tvs. were not allowed. It was the 7th game and Grandad insisted that he was going to watch his beloved Red Sox. He told the nurses that they must bring in a TV. so that he can watch the game. He threatened to pull out all his plugs if they didn't do as he asked. He said that he did not have to hear it all he needed to do was watch it so they could put the TV. on mute. They did it for him and he watched the game and, of course, the Sox lost. The following morning Grandad passed away. Today I went to the cemetery and visited with Grandad and told him that his loved Red Sox won. Somehow I think he heard me.

Aunt Saundra,

That's a moving story every time you tell it. Even New Yorkers were happy to see the Red Sox win.

I couldn't take my eyes off the games. Games started at 5 pm here, so dinner was cooked in spurts between innings and pitcher changes. Dishes were done in the same way. It was so exciting.

I didn't watch the World Series or the playoffs. Personally, I didn't care who won. I want to be a voice of sanity for all those others (if there are any) who do not care to watch baseball (or basketball, or football, or, well, any sport for that matter). I have my dad to thank, since he had little patience for sports and didn't bring this sort of thing into the house (he eventually did play some golf, though that was my mother's doing). No disrespect meant, just want to voice another opinion. I guess I'm just being an old alterkacker again, huh, Melanie?
