dear Elaine,
This is cousin Scott, son of Hannah and Ben, wishing you a safe return from this voyage into life's dark waters. A Storm at sea is the loneliest of places and you're captain of the vessel being tossed about by unpredicted currents and battered by fierce winds. Remember, that your family is the loyal and dedicated crew that can help you weather the worst waves of doubt, and help guide you through the thickest fog of fear. Every storm is finite and you will, hopefully sooner than you think, emerge into calm waters again.
As I wrote in an earlier Cousin's Blog post's comment, it's also Bob, Uncle Milty, Kathy, and all of Bob and Elaine's brothers, sisters, and kids who need to know that the whole extended family are with them as best we can. Most all of us remember the feelings of pain, frustration, powerlessness, anger, sadness, and hope that family members experience with cancer and its treatment.
It's been over twenty years since my brother, Jerry, died of lymphoma (he would have survived with today's treatments) and my sister, Zena, has overcome breast, bone, and cervical cancer and still going strong after more than fifteen years.
So to Elaine, Bob and all of Bob's family, hang in there, it's going to be rough for a bit. Use us, the rest of the family, as a safe harbor when you need it.
My dear sister-in-law Elaine,
We love you so much. When Joshua was a little boy and would have asthma attacks, I'd tell him if love could make you well, you'd never be sick. This is certainly true for you.
Your entire family is with you in this terrible battle, hoping and praying for your complete recovery. You are an amazing and strong person. You fight with everything you have and beat this nasty monster.
Love from all the Yates family....
