We have had a wonderful week. Jenny & Chris arrived on Monday, which was my birthday. Great birthday gift--my daughter and her husband! Plus Joshua's new girlfriend, Whitney was home this past week for Spring break. I took a week's vacation to be home with everyone.
For my birthday, we all went out to our favorite Chinese restaurant, where we have been going for 25 years. The owner has seen my kids grow up, and she always gives us special attention. Monday night was no exception, and we all had a fun evening.
Jenny and I did the fun girl-things we like to do, went for pedicures, went shopping, girl stuff. We all watched movies, played games, ate, hung out. Great family time.
Jenny & Chris headed for home Friday morning, and Greg & I left for Pismo Beach for the weekend. Greg's sister and her family live over there and there was a baby shower for her daughter on Saturday, which I attended. We brought Latke the adorable dog with us and it was fun to have him along.
Friday afternoon, we took a drive up Hwy. 1, just north of San Simeon (where Hearst Castle is) to see a herd of Elephant seals that live part of the year on the beach there. Oh my gosh, I can't begin to describe how many seals there are on this stretch of beach. There is a boardwalk where you can observe from a safe distance and it was fascinating. Latke the adorable dog who loves to watch tv was very impressed and thought it was way better than anything on Animal Planet!
So tomorrow, back to work and back to the routine. Good thing I like my job so well.

You guys know how to have fun. I mean, Chinese food (any good theories on the Jew/Chinese food connection?), pedicures, shopping, seal watching, what more can anyone want. Melanie, happy birthday, too.
Lets see, what's new. This weekend I had a great victory: rewired the ceiling lights in Ben's attic room. The previous owner back thirty years ago gerry-rigged lights that were supposed to be flush with the ceiling, but he used the wrong size so they stuck out from the ceiling about four inches. Very stupid looking, these metal tubes sticking out of the ceiling. After three years, I finally changed them. We're tackling Ben's lair while he's at school so we will surprise him with a newly painted and fixed up room.
Speaking of Ben, I have to report that he's been arrested, thrown in the clinker, brought to the Big House in the Big Apple. The story: I brought his bicycle down to him last week. Two days later he calls to report his arrest. Seems that there is a bicycle group called "Critical Mass" that gathers to ride en mass once a month as a "protest" or to drum up support for bicycle riding instead of car driving in the city. A couple of hundred bikes can really clog up the works in Manhattan. The city decided to crackdown on this group and when they gathered last week, the cops arrested the whole kit and kaboodle, including my ever eager to get involved son. Luckily, they didn't keep him in the clinker, but just processed him and sent him home (though they kept his bike in jail). Looks like a court date and fine coming up. I told Ben if he was going to get arrested, make it for something really good, for crying out loud!
I once heard someone pose a very thoughtful question: If the Chinese calendar is in the year 4703 and the Hebrew calendar is in the year 5765, what the heck did we do without Chinese food for over 1,000 years????
